Love, Luggage and Literacy

We are currently working with the Department of Child Services to provide children entering into the foster care program with a piece of luggage in which to move their belongings.  The program is call the Love, Luggage and Literacy Project.  As children entering the care of the DCS usually do so quickly with little preparation and are given a garbage bag to move their belongings.  By providing a piece of luggage with a tag identifying it as belonging to them containing a book or a journal, we hope to provide some sense of dignity and self-worth for the child.  To date we have provided one hundred pieces of luggage with tags and over 150 books or journals.  Since the flow of children into the system is on going we see this project as on going and plan to provide fifty pieces of luggage annually.

Thanks to the community for supporting our efforts at the Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebee's.  We appreciate those who attended the Altrusa Night at Zaxby's.

We can sell unwanted items at the consignment store to earn money for our service projects.
